Public Health Data Analysis Toolkit

Our Public Health Data Analysis Toolkit is designed for teams who already collect data but struggle to turn it into clear, defensible evidence. We created it for researchers, program officers, and students who need structured, step-by-step guidance rather than abstract statistics lectures.

The toolkit combines three core elements. First, there are concise SPSS and STATA guides tailored to typical public health datasets: routine service statistics, survey results, cohort follow-up, and outbreak line lists. Screenshots and examples walk users through data entry, cleaning, recoding, basic descriptive analysis, cross-tabulations, and regression without assuming advanced mathematical backgrounds.

Second, we provide a set of de-identified sample datasets drawn from realistic program scenarios - HIV care cascades, maternal health indicators, tuberculosis outcomes, immunization coverage, and infection prevention audits. These are paired with practice exercises so learners can follow the full sequence from raw data to tables and figures that decision-makers understand.

Third, detailed analysis manuals guide users through planning an analysis, checking data quality, choosing appropriate tests, and interpreting outputs. We emphasize practical questions: Which indicator best reflects program performance? How should missing values be handled in a low-resource context? How do you present findings to managers who have limited time but high accountability?

The materials are designed for use in self-study, classroom teaching, or on-the-job coaching. Trainers can easily integrate the manuals and datasets into existing courses or workshops, and supervisors can assign selected exercises as part of routine capacity-building for M&E and research staff.

We rely on this toolkit in our own training and consulting work because it consistently helps professionals move from "I have data" to "I can explain what this data means and what should change."
